A Guide To The Main Types Of Home Theater Speakers

1) Subwoofers

No matter which kind of speaker you get in your home theater system, you’ll usually also need a subwoofer to go with it. Without one, you just won’t get the full effect of any sounds you play through your system. Subwoofers are bigger than other speakers: they need to be in order to create low-frequency sounds. The good news, however, is that our ears can’t recognize where bass sounds are coming from, so the larger subwoofer can be placed anywhere you need in your living room to keep it out of the way.

This may not match true surround sound, but it’s an excellent option for those who want to save space and money.

4) Compact Surround Speakers

Modern home theater speakers can now come in compact designs that’ll still produce an excellent range of sounds. Because of their size, they are best for handling mid to high-frequency sounds. Place the assortment of speakers correctly around the room and you’ll achieve that true surround sound effect that makes you feel like you’re right in the middle of the action.
